Egads! It's Only the 5th!

12:00 PM

And I've already fallen off the "resolutions/goals" wagon! LOL! That didn't take long, now did it?!

"Oh well. Guess I can throw in the towel and go sit on the couch now. Things that might have been, well, guess it won't be happenin' this year. Tough luck."

You know what that sounds like to me? Perfectionism...if I can't do it perfectly, I won't do it at all.

As a recovering perfectionist, I've heard this mantra in my mind all too often. I still have those tendencies and I suspect I always will. In moments inattention or fear (like when I'm thinking about doing something new for the first time), I really have to watch my "mind language" so that I don't slip down that slippery slope and become paralyzed with fear.

So if you're like me and have taken the tumble early, welcome to the imperfect side of life! Feel free to be yourself, to love you for all that you are—warts, fun, mistakes, successes, follies and all things that make you, YOU! Kick your shoes off and stay a while! It's a whole lot more fun over here than it ever was over there on the perfect side of things.

I haven't been in the studio much these last few days. The "Love Grows" piece is part of a journal page in the Pineapple Journal that I'll be sharing more about in the next few days (hopefully). (Here's a hint...it has to do with classes!) Once I move through the "business" stuff in the next few days, I'll be back to posting more regularly. And who knows, maybe some info about the new class schedule!

Whether you've already fallen off the "wagon" or you're still on track, I hope you're having a phenomenal week!

  5. Pam, the jury's still out on whether I've lost my noodle or not! Just not about this—didn't mean to mess with you!

Good deal, Diana! I think we could all use a little more "enjoy" in our lives and a whole lot less stress and worry!

Ah, Kate, you have the right of it! There is NO such thing as perfectionism, BUT the mind has a hard time letting go of it.

  6. I think we're all too self-critical. I see all kinds of great things in my friends' work, and then I get depressed at what I come up with--I have learned to realize it's a process and one of these days I'll get there. In the meantime, I'll see some things I do well and others...not so much! haahaaaa! I know you'll have a great year of creating, Laure.

  7. I was wondering about you Laure. LOL
But I know that feeling. Sometimes tho is easier to put off or NOT to do something because we are sure we are going to fail at it anyway. Someone I know didn't do a fun project because of seeing others that are better then her. Trouble is, there is always going to be someone better so we need to be the best we can be & not be so self critical & seek perfection or nothing.. now if I can only take my own advice. :O

  8. It's very heartning to know you're not perfect, despite the evidence to the contrary in your artwork. LOL
I do love your lettering - have I mentioned that before? x

  9. Here's to imperfection! If we waited for "perfect," we'd never do/be anything.

  10. Well, I'm still on track, as my list of "reasonable goals" was very reasonable: lose some pounds (I didn't say how many), get my house sold (I haven't even listed yet), and follow my dream (I'm working on that).
I like your side of life, however, and I slide over there from time to time. I'm very much an imperfectionist.

  11. I am allergic to perfection. I can't stand to be around it. It doesn't happen here. Sometimes I long for it but it never comes so I have learned to ignore it. Have a great weekend.

  12. Thanks so much for visiting me and leaving a comment - I'm finally surfacing to wish you a shamefully late Happy New Year after a disastrous computer crash compounded by my 2nd bout of flu! Not a good start... it can only get better, lol.

As a fellow perfectionist, you'll empathise with how PERFECTLY miserable I've been, lol lol lol

    Hugs from the UK!
