It's Fall, y'all!

10:16 AM

I am so happy Autumn has arrived! It is truly my favorite season. Life seems to start slowing (fingers crossed), at least slowing enough that I can start to savor the passing of the days. There's a sweetness to the air when I go outside—on some days. Others, it's just plain muggy.
Yay! First pumpkins are showing up on the shelves!
Colors change, growing warmer, and the light changes especially. Love the long, cool shadows and warm golden light at the end of the day.
Just a few leaves have started to change color
I find that all I want to do is sit and paint leaves and pumpkins and landscapes and harvest corn and sunflowers and coneflowers and scarecrows and ravens and naked trees and tea bags and coffee mugs and outdoor fires and and and!
Dreaming of beautiful fall colors!
Now, if the weather would cooperate and drop about 30 degrees, it would actually feel like fall—until then, I'll just have to live vicariously through all the folks living north of the Florida state line!

And if you'd care to join me on An Imaginary Visit To Autumn, you'll find more information here! It will be 4 all new classes to sip and savor Autumn's beauty.

  4. Well fall has never been my favorite season because winter follows but you make it should delicious. So I will look at it with new eyes. Lovely paintings here. That leaf looks like it just drifted down onto your paper to sit for you to draw it.

    1. Maybe if we had more of a winter, I wouldn't like fall so much, but since winter is a non-start around here (usually), I look forward to the break from the heat!

That leaf was fun...very meditative and I think it shows!

  5. Love all your sketches, but especially the leaf. It is so dimensional, I really thought it was a real leaf, not a sketch. And in Oklahoma, all fall has meant is the temps are in the 90's instead of over 100, so I hear you!

  6. Autumn is my favourite time of year too Laure' though it's spring right now for me and that's pretty good too, but I do love that hint of crispness in an Autumnal day, bright with sunshine and blue skies. Your brushwork, as always totally delights me

    1. Spring has it's own beauty and certainly different...I think I don't love Spring as much as Autumn because it means the end of cooler weather. Still, it's so nice to see things blooming and the birds and bees and butterflies!

  7. It looks like fall outside, but it doesn't feel like it yet! I'm counting the days until the first real cold front.

  8. Ah.... I felt myself sort of 'melt' as I read your description of Fall. I hadn't planned on taking the Autumn class this year, but right now I can't seem to resist. I'm looking forward to the class!

  9. I love your fall colors and spirit! Makes me want to go out and kick leaves. I loved doing that in the MidWest. Here the rains usually come before there are enough leaves on the ground to kick .... but I might get lucky.

  11. Love your pictures. Glad I signed up for the class. The leaf is unbelievable. Fall seem to be too fleeting here in MI. We get such cold, dreary days and the winds blow all the beautiful leaves off way too quickly. Would you tell me what the brand/type of paint box you showed by the pumpkin picture? I'm looking for a paint box that suits me. I have several and haven't quite found the right one.

  12. Hi, Clare, that is an Angora Watercolor box. The Angora watercolors are very inexpensive watercolors and they used to be available through Michaels. Now you'll have to do a search for them online (eBay may have them) as Michaels now has their own inexpensive watercolors.

The little palette is plastic. I removed the paint and added my own. I also add a couple of extra slots for additional colors. Hope this helps!
