Sam's been a busy gal! We just finished this art bag up last weekend. It's colorful, fun and functions super well—just what the muse wanted (almost)! For new subscriber's to the blog, Sam is my muse. She makes periodic appearances on the blog. Usually when she's gotten me into a mess of trouble!

The overall size of the bag is 10 inches tall and 9 inches wide by 2.5 inches deep. Style-wise it's called a vertical messenger bag. It has a padded pocket so I can easily carry an iPad tablet as well as a 10" x 7" sketchbook with room left over for supplies, keys, iPhone and the like.

The back pocket is handy for an umbrella, maps, and souvenirs. The strap is adjustable so that the bag can be worn cross-body as well as over the shoulder.

And while this bag is close, it's not yet quite right and so the muse has been playing in her fabric stash, putting together some new ideas for a fall colored bag with a few modifications on to this one.

The girl just doesn't know when to quit!!

  1. Oh boy! I love it! Now I need one! Lol

  2. Tell you what would make it perfect to me – a zippered top instead of a flap, because I love messenger bags but hate messing with the flap.

Then I would want one in every color of the rainbow.

  3. OMGosh. I was sure you had bought this somewhere that sells bags for Artist on the go. Bravo. Is that leather too? Sam is good for you! :)

  8. OMG she sews too. This is beautiful fabric and that button is to die for. I like the way you have custom made your bag. It almost gets me in the mood to get my sewing machine out. Almost...

  11. Love, love, love, love, LOVE this! I hope you might post a tutorial on this, or even sell your final pattern Laure! I am forever browsing bags to find the 'perfect' art accessories messenger style bag. How perfect it would be to choose our own fabric colors. :) For the non-sewing artists, I recently scored a cool find... My local Office Max had the 'Kangaroo Keeper' purse insert on clearance for $2.50. It's great for transforming a 'not enough pockets' bag into a more functional art supply bag, or purse, ha ha! Not sure if links work in comments.. but here is the link to info on the Kangaroo Keeper, but go to your Office Max to get it at a bargain price https://www.kangarookeeper.com/

  14. You could do it, Teri, you know how to sew!

Karen, I'm not much of a zipper fan. I find I don't ever use them so works better for me to have a flap.

Hey, Cris, it's faux leather. My machine isn't strong enough to sew through the real thing!

    Thanks, Theresa!

Eeeek!! Pattern?!! I'll try, Toni, but no promises. That will take some serious thought!

    Thanks, Ann!

Thank you, Betty, you know how muses can be—never quite satisfied!

  15. Oh, come on, Lisa!! You can do it! Especially with winter right around the corner!

Thanks, Carole, I love that fabric too! Makes me happy!

Funny, I hadn't thought of it as talent, Caroline, it's just something I know how to do!

Katie, thanks for sharing the Kangaroo Keeper!! I have a couple of bags that would definitely work in. As I mentioned to Toni, I'll try to put together a pattern. Not something I've ever done before!

    Thanks, Kelly!

    Thank you, Claire!

  16. You made this bag?? This is fantastic! I love the colors and all the neat little pockets. You should market these babies! They'd sell like hotcakes! Beautiful.

  17. Looks perfect to me. What else are you wanting? I made a couple of bags recently for my iPad, but they don't have all the pockets this oe has. I would also love a pattern if you put one together.

  18. It's okay to keep making bags. You'll have one for any occasion! This one is really neat with all those pockets and a space for everything so they don't get mixed up. It looks so nice too!

  19. Wow, somehow I missed this post. You made that gorgeous bag?! Artist envy....
