Willis' Ouch!

They say life is what's happening while you're making other plans. I wasn't aware of making other plans, but life was and is happening.

As it turns out, we've had two family members in the hospital and a sick kitten in and amongst other (not so) fun happenings since my last post.

About a week and a half after Willis came to live with us, she developed a nasty upper respiratory infection and had to go on 10 days worth of antibiotics. The Compounding Shop made them tuna flavored and she thought that was fabulous! She's finally over that nonsense.

Last week, the minx managed to hurt herself by damaging her growth plate at the end of her ulna bone on her right hind leg. (That's her ankle if you had no idea what or where the ulna bone is—I had to look it up too!)

Took her to the vet's for sedation and x-rays…they put a split on her and said, "She hasn't messed with it here. We think she'll be fine. Just keep it on her as long as you can."

Yeah, right.

Two hours, fifteen minutes and that bad boy was off!

She did not take kindly to the splint pulling the fur on her leg. Getting madder by the minute, she started to bite and growl at it until she pulled it off. Distraction techniques, scolding and food failed at taking her mind off from the situation.

We've been keeping her confined and giving her pain medicine to take the edge off.

Willis goes back to the vet in another two weeks for a follow-up. Hopefully, she'll be on the mind by then.

Meanwhile the two family members have improved and both are now out of the hospital.

Life has a way of moving us forward. Without a journal page, I know I would remember Willis getting hurt and her boo-boo, but I doubt if I'd remember the details because there was so many other situations going on at the same time.

By putting this in my journal, I'll alway remember her hot pink splint and the fact that the little varmint managed to pull the thing off in just a few hours.

Do you journal about your daily life or just when you travel? I'd like to know!

How about sharing the details of what you put in your journals with me?

  1. Oh so sorry about all the LIFE happenings. So glad all are on the mend but your kitty has gone thru 2 of her nine lives and so young. :) I do journal daily but verbally. I would like to do it with sketches and I try but I cant draw out of my head unless its stick figures... I need pix or something in front of me standing STILL... as you know pets don't. so all my good intentions end up in my verbal journal and photos. Altho I would love to do it the other way.

  2. Oh my goodness Laurie, when 'life happens' with you, it really happens! Poor little kitty. Happy to hear the family members are okay.

As for your question, I journal all the time. Can't imagine a day without it even a mundane day.

So good to see you back here.

  3. Your poor kitty. What a way to start life in her new home.

I journal all sorts of things. When I work I journal less. When I get sofa time I journal more.

I usually journal something every day though. Few days go by that I don't at least write something.

  4. I've been thinking of you lately and wondering how you were. Glad your family members are doing better, and hope kitty is on the mend. I haven't journaled much in a long time, but at least I'm sewing again.

  5. First off, I'm glad to hear your family illnesses are improved and your loved ones back home. Hospitals are no fun even if I do work in one.

Now to poor Willis. I am so sorry about the paw injury and really hope it heals rapidly. Sick or injured kitties are no fun either. That said, the part about how rapidly she got the splint off had me laughing until tears rolled down my face. Cats are such awesome and determined critters...gotta love 'em.

That said, I haven't painted much of anything since early May so am very rusty and itching for a brush in my hand. I am "decorating" the cover of a journal I'm using to chronicle my newest "adventure" and that is even more making me want to paint. Another watercolor buddy suggested I should also chronicle this "adventure" in paint. Must think about and jump on that.

  6. I am so glad your family members are finally home! Bet everyone is relieved about that.

Poor kitty. Sometimes animals know just how to take care of themselves and sometimes they don't. I have a dog that tears off the bandages I put on the sores she makes huge by licking tiny scrapes and then of course, she makes them even bigger. Some are 3 years old. I get them almost gone and then she has a licking spree. Aaargh! Hope your kitty will let you take more care of her than Sarah lets me!

As far as journaling goes, I do occasional pages when I have time or something really strikes me as drawable! Lately with the closing and final moving out of our AZ house I have gotten behind and didn't even finish my trip to Australia! Soon I should have more time and then I do want to get some pages done as my granddaughters really like to see what I have been up to and I want to encourage them as much as possible.

  7. I'm sorry to hear you have had your hands full .... but at least they are doing better.

I seldom journal at home. I always feel how fast my journal is filling is a reflection of the quality of my life. ..... but I have been watching / feeding a spider on my deck since June so this summer I have been compiling a lot journal notes at home.

Sometimes I don't get all my notes written 'in the field' and then I often finish up on the computer and put a little note in my journal to remind myself that there are more notes.

  8. If it's not one thing, it's another...that's what we are always saying at our house, and it seems the same is true for you. So sorry for all the happenings. You're so right about journaling. The other day, I was trying to remember the day something happened. I thought if I had been journaling I would have it at my fingertips... You're so good at recording life events. I'm good at recording birding occurrences, but I have to get with it for the humans! :-)
