About An Imaginary Trip
Made Real To England
I am so very pleased to share with you I'm partnering with The Blue Walk to host an Imaginary Trip Made Real to England and in particular, to Stratford-Upon-Avon. You may be familiar with The Blue Walk as they've hosted a number of Art Walks with Leslie Fehling, Jane LaFazio and others. We'll be in very good hands!
Our trip will begin on Monday, August 14, 2017 with a Welcome Dinner and conclude on Saturday, August 20th.
Stratford-Upon-Avon is the home of English playwright, William Shakespeare, and located in the rolling hills of the Cotswolds. Settled along the River Avon, the town began as a market town because of a low area in the river that made for easier passage.
The town is home to several well-known theaters including the Royal Shakespeare Theatre as well as Hall's Croft, Harvard House, The Garrick Inn, and the Stratford Butterfly Farm.
There will also be an opportunity to visit Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill, in the town of Woodstock, all with our sketchbooks in hand. Guided tours along the canal as well as a boat trip will have you filling page after page.
Not only will I be giving fun, impromptu, live demos depending on the day's outing along with sharing ways to quickly capture the things that are truly speaking to you without getting mired down in the details (too much), I'll also be spending time with each artist to help them grow the skills they need to work quickly and efficiently while on location.
We'll have time to work on our sketchbooks in the morning and evenings so that we come home with a treasure trove of memories. I'll be working with you on quick sketching techniques, working to fill the page in a pleasing layout and sharing ideas on how to make the everyday experience show up as something extraordinary on the page without getting overwhelmed.
New to art journaling? Don't be intimidated. There are several ways to develop your skills of drawing and observation as well as different ways of filling the pages so that you come home with a full sketchbook that captures your memories.
Before we go, we'll discuss the supplies we need to take (as well as what we can leave at home), what to pack (hint: as little as possible) and lots of extras to make this a trip you'll be thinking about for years!
About Imaginary Trips Made Real (ITMR)
ITMR workshops are hosted in cities and areas where one can walk and meander with a sketchbook to capture those places that truly touch our hearts.
Walking gives the traveler the opportunity to slow down and really "see" a place rather than snap a few quick snaps and call it done before loading back on the bus to journey off to the next location. The Blue Walk gets this and that's why they're the perfect partner for this trip. They get the need to s-l-o-w down and truly see rather than just look and go.
There will be lots of in-the-moment presentations, demos, instructions and ideas on how to capture those heart sparks onto our sketchbook pages. I will be giving out information long before our feet ever touch the English countryside as I believes a-n-t-i-c-i-p-a-t-i-o-n is as much a part of the trip as the actual trip itself! After we're back home, I'll continue to share ideas for incorporating photos and memory sketches as well as help keep you motivated to finish all your sketchbook pages.
I will share ideas on supplies, packing LIGHT, what is a "must" to bring as well as the absolute things to avoid bringing (a hint: the entire studio!). While the terrain is not treacherous and the pace is set to meandering, this will be a physically active class.
About Me, Laure
I love combining art and travel! It is one of my main passions and I LOVE sharing that passion with other artists. Being with likeminded people, sharing ideas, seeing what others have created after a day's outings are tremendously
Having been a studio artist for years, I used my sketchbook to work out compositions and such. About ten years ago, I discovered the handy use of a sketchbook for getting outside and into the actual setting and I never looked back!
I found I had to teach myself to successfully sketch on location because it takes a very different mindset than working in the studio.
I developed a system I call the Five E's—Evaluate, Eliminate, Edit, Embellish and Exaggerate. These five steps have been immensely helpful to me over the years as I've filled page after page and I'll be sharing them with you as I've been helping others to improve their sketching skills and speed for over seven years at ImaginaryTrips.com. The system's easy to learn and helps us to really focus in on what's capturing our interest.
So what do you say? Want to join me for a fabulous week of sketching and fun as we explore Stratford-Upon-Avon together?!
